I need to start building my portfolio, but I have a lack of inspiration. If you’d like to see something specific from me, leave it in the comments or drop me a line!

Aha, go easy on me, yes?

A B for B (that’s me!)

Only Photoshop CS6 on this one, ladies and gentlemen. I should have researched a bit before doing one of these; I’m fairly certain that the text should stay exactly the same throughout the lettering, but I changed the size, kerning, etc. Whoops!

A lack of inspiration.

I am having a difficult time finding inspiration. I need to add to my design portfolio to increase my chances of obtaining a job in the field. A friend of mine is trying to help… she has many ideas of things that I need to create in order to have a more full portfolio.

I created a business card today. It’s for a florist shop, ideally. 🙂

The bright pink is eye-catching, which is a good thing for a business card to be. However, no one in their right mind would use that as a background color for something; it would make reading the text too difficult. I decided that a side panel using the color would work nicely.

Tools: Intuous 5, Photoshop CS6

As an afterthought, here’s some matching letterhead.

And an alternative for the business card:

Pink Love!

One of my bosses is pregnant, and she asked me to create an artwork for her to hang in her baby’s new room. The baby’s room will have a safari theme, so a cute pink giraffe seemed the logical choice to make! If she likes it, I may ask her if she’d like me to do a series of safari critters using the same color scheme. Check it out!

It’s a cartoony kind of illustration; I rather like it. It’s waaaay different than what I usually do!

As per normal, I began by creating a simple sketch. After scanning it, I used Illustrator to create a vector and used Photoshop for the rest. This seems to be my method!

Be the Bee

Today, when I clocked out from work, I exited right into a gorgeous October day. As I approached my car, I saw a rather distressing sight. A bee! On my car window.

Bugs of all kinds terrify me, so getting inside the car was tricky. I managed to get inside the car, and the bee remained on the window.

I watched him… he watched me. After several minutes of staring at him like a fool, I tapped on the glass right underneath him. He twitched an antenna and gradually began to move around.

Because I had never seen a bee up close (well, not from a safe location anyway), I had no idea how fascinating these creatures really are. They are able to move their legs in different ways… different angles and such.. as opposed to simply being able to have each leg stuck straight out, the legs are bendable in places. So are the antenna, it seems. Anyway, I observed him for a good forty-five minutes or so before eventually deciding to drive home.

As I began to move the car, I noticed the bee hadn’t flown away yet. I was amazed that his tiny legs were able to hold on. We–the bee and I–continued our journey home together.

The bee safely made it home with me. The bee remained on my window the entire way home! Its legs were able to hold it, even though I drove upwards of forty miles per hour home. The drive home is several miles, so this is really no small feat.

I would love to talk to an entomologist about this matter. If a bee’s knees are really that strong, that’s amazing! Honestly. That an insect could literally hang on to my window through at least forty mile per hour wind for at least five miles is incredible.

The moral of the story is this: be the bee. Don’t give up on anything… especially your dreams. If a tiny bee can do all that he did, imagine what you can accomplish!

Paint Tool SAI for Mac

Alas, I must again post this famous blog post (only for the third time… you know, the third domain, the third time). So many people have asked for this, and I must also apologize for the huge delay (we’re talking years here). I have a plethora of excuses to choose from, but I know you’ve been waiting, so here it is. The instructions are a little bit different this time around, so pay attention.

Prior to doing all this and then asking me, I’ll provide two tidbits up front: you MUST HAVE an Intel Mac to be able to run this version of CrossOver. And number two, SAI’s sensitivity still seems to not work. You can mess with it if you like–won’t hurt my feelings any.

1. Download CrossOver 10. Last time around, we used CrossOver 8. Years have passed, and technology has improved. You can find it here.

2. Run the CrossOver installer. It’ll give you a basic “welcome” screen. You can close it or ignore it; it doesn’t matter. In the top meny bar, you’ll see Configure. Click it. Then click “Install Software.” You will see a large list of programs… one of the top programs is Easy Paint Tool SAI. Gasp! But wait–DO NOT CHOOSE THIS OPTION. Unfortunately, the link it uses has an expired version of SAI… as in, the trial ran out. You don’t want it. You can try it if you want to…. be my guest.

3. After you’ve proven me right, download a special version of SAI right here. Unzip the zipped folder.

4. In CrossOver, click Easy Paint Tool SAI. Yes, I told you not to click it… it was for your own good. You can’t use the listed link. You can, however, use the version of SAI that I just provided you.

5. Click “Will download the installer from” and choose “Choose installer file.” Browse to the SAI.exe… wherever you saved it. You may be able to install it using the folder option, but I did NOT try it.

6. Click “Will install into…” or “Bottle” or something like that, and make sure you are installing SAI into a WINDOWS XP bottle.

7. Click Install. This can be a lengthy process… Be patient.

Last but not least, thanks for waiting for me to bring this back… I appreciate it. I also appreciate the chance to be able to serve you better. Many thanks goes to the original posters of these two programs, for without them, I couldn’t have gotten SAI to run at all.

If you have any questions or concerns, leave a comment.

Yours,

Bianca
